A MYRIAD OF DISCARDED BOOKS AND MAGAZINES SERVED AS THE BASIS MATERIAL TO CREATE SIMPLE LANTERNS FROM, INSPIRED BY THE SOCIAL LIGHT FESTIVALS OF ROMANIA. PARTICIPANTS WERE ENCOURAGED TO LEAVE THEIR MARK BY SKETCHING, ETCHING, MAKING HOLES AND WRITING MESSAGES OF HOPE ON THEIR LANTERNS.

OPLYST MEANS BOTH “ENLIGHTENED” AND “LITTEN” IN DANISH, THUS THE NAME IS REFERRING TO THE CONTEXT OF THE LIBRARY AS WELL AS TO OUR NEED FOR LIGHT IN THE DARKER TIME OF THE YEAR.

THANKS TO KØBENHAVNS HOVEDBIBLIOTEK, JOCELYN IBARRA AND PATRIK KARLSON FOR HELPING OUT WITH THE PROJECT AND DOCUMENTING THE PROCESS.
