THE ISLAND OF MØN IS THE FIRST PROTECTED DARK SKY PARK IN THE NORDICS, SWORN TO GUARD AND PRESERVE DARKNESS FOR THE GREATER GOOD OF BOTH HUMANS AND NATURE. LIGHT POLLUTION DISRUPTS WILDLIFE AND ECOSYSTEMS, HAS A NEGATIVE EFFECT ON HUMAN HEALTH AND HINDERS ASTRONOMERS FROM LOOKING INTO SPACE.

THE FULL IMPLICATIONS OF LIGHT POLLUTION IS BEING RESEARCHED BY ENTHUSIASTS BUT IS YET TO GAIN RECOGNITION AS A WORLDWIDE PROBLEM. FOR THAT REASON THE INTERNATIONAL DARK-SKY ASSOCIATION WAS FOUNDED IN 1988 BY TWO AMERICAN ASTRONOMERS, WORKING TO SAVE AREAS STILL UNAFFECTED BY LIGHT POLLUTION AND SPREAD KNOWLEDGE ABOUT THE PHENOMENON ACROSS THE GLOBE.

DARK SKY DAY WAS AN EVENT THAT EXPLORED OUR RELATIONSHIP TO DARKNESS AND ITS ABILITY TO RECONNECT US TO BOTH NATURE AND OURSELVES, INITIATED BY LIGHT CULTURE AGENCY KALEIDOSKOP. A SERIES OF DARKNESS-FRIENDLY LIGHT INSTALLATIONS WAS CREATED FOR A ROUTE THAT ENCOURAGED VISITORS TO VENTURE INTO THE DARKNESS AND EMBRACE THE OLD CITY OF STEGE’S HISTORICAL AND PRESENT DAY QUALITIES.
