SOLARIUM

SOLARIUM is a permanent light installation developed for the central square of Kolding Storcenter to be the focal point of a refurbishing project made in 2020 by Spacelab Arkitekter. It draws inspiration from optical and ephemeral artworks by artists such as Olafur Eliasson and Julio Le Parc and reimagines the twelve-sided atrium as a playful sundial.

The 18 suspended discs function as an optical system that reflect and refract sunlight, and at night they are lit by 18 white profile spots that project the multicoloured circles onto the white walls surrounding the atrium.

TIMEGAZING

When extracted from their natural context, even the simplest physical phenomena tend to gain our interest.

Timegazing is a kinetic light art work that reveals the fundamental physics of light, by splitting white light into its constituent parts, as an example of refraction and dispersion.

The artwork is developed in collaboration with Finnish production company SunEffects.
